Part 1: Program Planning to Support EAL/D students

Supporting EAL/D students in our classrooms is a three-part course designed to address the contributions and educational needs of diverse EAL/D students in Australian schools, including those who have recently arrived and who may be from refugee backgrounds. Drawing upon principles and practices of EAL/D pedagogy to support mainstream and EAL/D teachers in planning and implementing programs that meet the needs of EAL/D students in mainstream classes, teachers will learn how to identify specific teaching and learning practices that can best support the educational development of their EAL/D students.


Why participate?

This course is the first of three which can be completed separately or in sequence. 

Part 1: Program Planning to Support EAL/D students addresses program planning processes that are principled and collaborative; and that identify clear purposes for learning organised in two sections: 

  • Module 1 — Program Planning
  • Module 2 — Purposes for Learning
 

Who should participate?

  • Teachers - Years F-6
  • Teachers of EAL/D students, including New Arrivals

How does it work?

  • Individuals: upon registration individuals will be sent a link to access the PL on our online learning platform.
  • Whole schools: One staff member must register on behalf of their school.
    They can choose to have a single link to view this together or can email us the names and email addresses of teachers they wish to enrol.

Completing this course contributes to 4 hours of online Professional Learning addressing 1.3.2 and 1.5.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.

For NSW teachers: Completing Supporting EAL/D students in our classrooms Part 1: Program planning to support EAL/D students will contribute 4 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of Delivery and assessment of NSW Curriculum/Early Years Learning Framework addressing standard descriptors 1.3.2 and 1.5.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
