Creative Writing: The link between grammar and imagination

This course explores the links between grammar-imagination concepts and English textual concepts and provides an explanation through examples and the use of literature as mentor texts. Teachers are provided with practical strategies to use in the classroom to take children's writing to the next level.
The following six grammar-imagination concepts will be developed -
- Vantage point
- Window of Attention
- Fictive Motion
- Figure & Ground
- Action Chains
- Explore the links between grammar-imagination concepts and English textual concepts.
- Learn to employ grammar as a resource for making meaning in texts.
- Support writing in the upper primary years using evidence-based practices by demonstrating how author's use of grammar shapes meaning and narrative effect.
- Develop an understanding of the grammar-for-writing approach to explicitly teach the way authors think about narrative scenes.

- Literacy Coordinators
- Teacher Librarians
What else do I need to know? This course is grounded in the extensive research around Myhill's et. al. (2013) pedagogical approach of functional grammar for writing.
How does it work?
- Individuals: Upon registration individuals will be sent a link to access the PL on our online learning platform.
- Whole schools: One staff member must register on behalf of their school. They can choose to have a single link to view this together or can email us the names and email addresses of teachers they wish to enrol.
This course is NESA Approved
For NSW teachers: Completing Creative Writing: The Link Between Grammar and Imagination will contribute 2 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of Delivery and assessment of NSW Curriculum/Early Years Learning Framework addressing standard descriptor 2.1.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
