This member exclusive free term 3 PL course provides guidance for teachers when selecting quality texts for use in the classroom. "Learning to appreciate literary texts and to create their own literary texts enriches students’ understanding of the breadth and complexity of human experiences. It builds students’ knowledge of the interrelationship of language and culture, and stimulates creative and critical thinking" (ACARA, 2024). With little time to spare browsing for the perfect text, this course gives teachers the tools they need to find and select quality texts that meets both the needs of the curriculum and of their students. This course will cover:

• What we mean by quality texts for teaching and learning
• The role of texts in knowledge-rich curriculum design
• Considerations when planning using quality texts

Before you start the course, we strongly recommend you register and attend the live webinar on 31 July with our Literacy Leader and course creator, Karen Rogers. The webinar will be recorded if you can’t make it live.

• Confidently find and select texts that meets the needs of the curriculum and of your students
• Identify the key knowledge and skills that can be explored using quality texts
